Moki Cherry. Moki Cherry (1943–2009) has worked in a range of medium, from art, to theatre and music. Differing from other artists that came of age in the 1970s, she wasn’t solely interested in pointing at what was wrong in the power structure in society, but more in showing the different possibilities of how to live life.

Moki Cherry was a visual artist and a musician in the second half of the twentieth century. Moki Cherry was born in 1943 as Monika Marianne Karlsson. Kerry Schuss presents works by Swedish artist Moki Cherry (1943-2009), the first exhibition of her work in New York in more than twenty years. Focused on ceramics made from 1992-1996, and collages created in the 2000s, key aspects of this artist’s wide-ranging, inter-flowing body of work may be seen in relation to one another, as well as considered within the scope of her art over five decades.

In 1962, Moki Cherry moved to Stockholm to study at the Beckmans College of Design. A few years later, she met the American jazz musician Don Cherry, and they embarked on a close collaboration.
